The little giraffe was born on the 25th of May in the year 1961, when Monsieur Rampeau, the toy's inventor came up with the idea of designing a giraffe from the sap from the hevea tree. The idea, according to company lore, was to create a toy that would be the ideal size and shape for a baby to grasp with it's small hands.

Today, Sophie is still made from 100% natural rubber derived from the sap of the Hevea tree. Since that first toy was produced, more than 30 million little giraffe's have been sold in Europe and are now available in Keene.
